Happy 85th Anniversary, Educators Credit Union!
At Educators Credit Union, we’re celebrating our 85th anniversary! Since 1937, we’ve had a lot to celebrate. We want to thank you, our members, for making the past 85 years possible. Whether you’ve been a member for five days or 50 years, we appreciate you for trusting us to be your credit union!
In honor of our anniversary, here is a look back at some of our historic moments.
- Educators Credit Union began as Racine Teachers Credit Union in 1937. In 1974, we officially changed our name to Educators Credit Union.
- Because there was no place for teachers to save or borrow money at reasonable rates in 1937, local teachers formed a financial cooperative – a credit union. Today, we are proud to still offer fair and reasonable rates.
- The first president, Erwin Wall, used his home as the first “branch” where transactions and services were completed right at his kitchen table. Now, we have 23 branch locations in southeastern Wisconsin!
- Back in 1937, the joining fee was $5 to become a member of the credit union, and it is still $5 today! This $5 is your ticket to becoming a member-owner of Educators Credit Union.
- In May 1937, there were 49 members who joined the credit union. Today, we are over 217,000 members strong! Our members are not only teachers but hold just about any job you can imagine.
Although we’ve grown tremendously over the past eight decades, we remain committed to educating and empowering members to make financial decisions that are right for them.
Cheers to the next 85 years!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!
